Hunter LaFever. Thirty years as Captain or Crew fishing South Florida waters, one phone number. Your boat, my experience. I bring my rods and reels, or we use yours. Either way I've got my personal tools, my rain gear, and a few of my selected secret baits at all times. No hype, no fluff. Just fishing.

§ 01 · The Pit

Where the day gets run.

On a boat, the fishing area in the back is called the cockpit. It's known by captains and mates as the pit, because that's where the fight takes place. The pit is where most of the injuries during fishing happen. Lures, knives, props, gaffs, hooks, teeth, tails, slip and fall. All of it lives in about eight feet of deck, if you're lucky.

That's where I work. That's where I teach. That's where the day gets run.

I've been fishing South Florida 30 years, for everything that swims. As a USCG-licensed captain, I've worked charter and private since I started. I teach mostly private now. Multiple consecutive years I was a headliner at the Miami Boat Show, running planer fishing, bonita strip cutting and rigging, swordfishing. I also filled the gaps between special guests with free rigging sessions and other special requests for the duration of the show days. I was at the booth all day teaching, or a guest was.

I love fishing. And I love watching someone I've taught love it even more than I do. My goal is to make that happen any way I can.

I want you to know why you got the bite, how, and what to do to repeat the process without me.

No hype, no fluff. Just fishing.

§ 02 · What I Do

When I come aboard your boat.

I'm not a charter. I'm not the captain or mate. I'm the teacher and fishing expert. You're not riding along on my boat. I'm teaching you to fish yours. Your hull, your cockpit, your gear or mine. I can bring rods, tackle, bait, whatever the day needs, and we run it together until you can run it without me.

I'm not a tackle shop trying to sell you $5K to $50K worth of gear you don't know how to use. We can teach you what you need. One technique a trip or one class at a time, the right way, until it's yours.

01
One Big Fish
The trophy program. We build the whole day around the bite that gets talked about.
02
Fish for the Table
Quality fish, handled right. Gaffed, iced, and ready for the kitchen.
03
Catch & Release
Sport and pressure, done clean. Every fish back in the water strong.
04
A Species Named
You want a permit, a sailfish, a swordfish. The entire day gets built around that one fish.
05
Weekend Classic
A nice day on the water, with a little luck on the side.
06
A Day on the Water with the Family
A fun day on the water, some fishing with the family.

What I teach is what I do.

Multiple consecutive years a headliner at the Miami International Boat Show, running the bait rigging station, cutting bonita strips, teaching planer fishing and swordfishing to whoever pulled up a chair. We work with all ages.

Same thing I'll do on your boat. Just without the convention center.

§ 03 · Land Based

Not all of it happens on the water.

I run hands-on bait rigging classes on land, with the bait and supplies in front of you. Bring a group and the rate comes down, everyone learns together.

I'm also available for seminars, fishing group bookings, club events, and paid speaking. If you've got a room that wants to learn, call us and we'll set it up.

01
Bait Rigging Classes
Hands-on, land-based. Knots, rigging, and bait prep with real materials in your hands.
02
Group Sessions
Bring a crew. Group rates available, everyone learns the same techniques side by side.
03
Seminars & Speaking
Fishing groups, club events, and headline speaking. Available by arrangement.
§ 04 · Other Services

Anything boating and fishing.

Teaching is the heart of it, but it isn't all of it. Here's the rest of what I do and the people I work with.

Tournament Crew
We do work as tournament crew. We can set up a team for you or be on the team, as well as charter crew for charter owners.
Charter Setup & Advice
Getting a charter operation rigged, dialed, and running right.
Tackle Shopping & Outfitting
Sourcing the right gear, optimized for how you fish and what it costs, not one shop's shelf.
Tackle Organization & Sorting
Getting your tackle squared away so you can find what you need when the bite is on.
Boat Buying & Building Consults
Pre-purchase evaluation and build advice.
Charter Referrals
Want to charter a boat? I'll point you to the right operator.

If it's not on the list and it deals with fishing or fishing boats, we can help, or we know someone who can.

§ 06 · The Helm

Palm Beach Inlet to Key Biscayne.

South Florida's central coast. Close enough to fish hard, far enough to cover real water.

I'd rather use the day wisely than burn it driving.

What to do with what you brought home.

A fish is only as good as how you treat it, from the gaff to the cooler to the pan. Recipes, prep, and fish handling, posted here as we go.
